About

A look in the kitchen

Lyncker·22 was born in 2025, when two friends and designers Nicolaas Borst and Boris de Beijer had the idea of once designing a spice grinder together.

We started making spice grinders in our workshop in The Hague as an output for our ideas, but making drawings and prototypes became such a joy that we never stopped making new ones.

In a time where most functional devices are manufactured in high quantities on the assembly line and increasingly losing their personality, Lyncker22 strongly focuses on the character that each spice grinder embodies. Every piece represents a table character, and each character belongs to a larger extended and chosen family. The family is meant to grow organically into different variations of Mama’s, Papa’s, Cousins and Nephews, Aunts and Uncles, and so on. New family members are created every month.

The spice grinder is a handmade product of which the slight imperfections are part of its charm. Most of them are made in limited editions, however a few designs are made in unlimited numbers. We select various types of woods such as walnut, ebony, zebrano and wenge, but also beech, maple, oak and different kinds of fruitwood like pear and cherry wood. Brass and copper are used for the feet, crowns and wheels.

Lyncker22’s spice grinders are not just functional objects, but an extension of the dinner table guests.

What can I grind with my Lyncker·22 grinder?
You can use a long list of spices. Besides the most common pepper and salt you can also use cumin, fennel, cardamom, mustard seeds and red pepper flakes. Make sure the spices are dry. Do not use moist spices or any wet ingredients.

What materials do you use?

We work with a range of materials including brass, aluminium, copper and different kind of woods like Wenge, Beech, Maple and Ebony. Each piece specifies its materials on the product page.

What kind of mechanism do you use?
We use a ceramic grinding mechanism from danish brand Crush Grind. These mechanisms are tested thoroughly and have a 25-year warranty on the ceramic parts. Since the mechanism is made of plastic and ceramic it is not as sensitive to wear and tear and corrosion as steel grinders are. Which makes it more durable.

How long does shipping take?

Ready-to-ship pieces are dispatched within 3–5 business days. Made-to-order pieces have a lead time of approximately 4–6 weeks from the date of purchase. An order with both kinds of pieces is shipped in one package, once all pieces are ready.

However, returns or exchanges of made-to-order items are only possible in specific circumstances and will be assessed on a case-by-case basis. Please email us at contact@lyncker22.com. All details, and a withdrawal form, are on our Legal page.

What should I do if I received a damaged or faulty item?
All items are thoroughly checked for quality prior to shipping. As our pieces are handmade from natural materials, variations in colour, grain and finish are normal and are not defects.

If you receive a damaged or faulty piece, please email us at contact@lyncker22.com within 14 days of delivery, with photos of the box you received and of the unpacked piece, and your order information. We assess every report on the photos and, if needed, on the piece itself.

Please return the package with tracking and appropriate insurance, so that it can be followed. Refunds go to your original method of payment, and we notify you within 14 days of return.

Thank You for Your Purchase

Your Lyncker·22 spice grinder is crafted from natural wood and solid brass. With proper care, it will maintain its beauty, functionality, and quality for many years.

Daily Use
• Use dry spices only.
• Do not use moist spices, or wet ingredients.
• Turn the mill using smooth and steady movements.
• Do not overfill the mill; leave some space inside for optimal performance.

Cleaning
Wooden Parts
• Clean with a soft, dry, or slightly damp cloth.
• Dry immediately after cleaning.
• Do not use harsh cleaning agents, alcohol, or abrasive materials.
• Never immerse the mill in water.

Periodic Wood Care
To keep the wood protected and looking beautiful:
• Occasionally treat the surface with a small amount of food-safe wood oil or beeswax polish. Contact our customer service for specific instruction. We use different kind of polish per mill and keep a database on what we used on your mill.
• Apply using a soft cloth.
• Allow it to absorb briefly, then buff dry.

Brass Parts
Brass naturally develops a patina over time. This is normal and adds character to the product. However if you want to maintain shine you can:
• Polish gently with a soft microfiber cloth.
• If desired, use a mild brass polish.
• Avoid contact between polishing products and the wood. Brass parts can be taken off the wooden base by turning it counter-clockwise. To put it back, turn it clockwise.

Important
• Do not use steel wool or abrasive sponges.
• Avoid prolonged exposure to moisture.

Filling the Pepper Mill
1 Carefully remove the top knob or cap.
2 Fill the mill with dry spices.
3 Reattach the top without over-tightening. Make sure the hexagon cap is correctly put on the aluminum hexagon stick.

Adjusting the Grind Size
• Turn the bottom logo knob:
◦ Tighter = finer grind
◦ Looser = coarser grind
Never force the mechanism completely tight. The ceramic parts should not be touching each other. Different spices need different size adjustments. Experiment per spice what works best.

Storage
• Store in a dry place at room temperature.
• Avoid direct sunlight and heat sources.
• Do not leave the mill in humid environments for extended periods.

Natural Materials
Wood is a natural material. Variations in color, grain, and texture are normal and make each mill unique.

Brass may darken or develop slight discoloration over time due to oxidation and handling. We encourage to use the mill and appreciate it’s patina over time.

Common Issues
The mill grinds poorly
• Check whether the mill is overfilled.
• Use dry spices only.
• Clean any residue from the grinding mechanism.

The wood feels dry
• Treat with food-safe wood oil or beeswax polish. Contact our customer service for specific instruction.

The brass becomes darker
• This is natural oxidation.
• Use a gentle brass polish if a shiny finish is preferred.

Safety Information
• Not dishwasher safe.
• Keep out of reach of small children.
• Use only for its intended purpose.

Longevity & Maintenance
With regular care, your spice grinder can last for generations.

We wish you many years of enjoyable use and cooking pleasure.
